BrainParade is an art exhibition created to raise awareness of migraine and cluster headache and to deepen understanding of the impact these conditions have on the lives of millions of people. Both are brain disorders, often invisible to those on the outside, yet profoundly present in the lives of those who live with them. Through brain-shaped sculptures interpreted by artists, the exhibition transforms into art what is often unseen: the lived experience of migraine and cluster headache. It invites the public to reflect, empathize, and support.
Migraine affects around 1 billion people worldwide and is considered the leading cause of disability among women aged 15 to 49. In Brazil, it is estimated that 33 million people live with the condition.
Cluster headache is often described as one of the most severe pains a human being can experience, primarily affecting men. However, due to its lower prevalence, it remains underrecognized and is often neglected.
Despite their high prevalence and significant impact on quality of life, these conditions are still underdiagnosed, undertreated, and frequently misdiagnosed, with limited access to appropriate care. BrainParade emerges as a movement that brings together art, science, and awareness, giving visibility to the experience of millions of people living with these conditions.
The initiative is promoted by ABRACES – Brazilian Association for Cluster Headache and Migraine, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of people living with headache disorders. The organization advocates for faster diagnosis, proper treatment, and the promotion of awareness, education, and research initiatives.
